Duluth Winter Trailrunning Series

The Duluth Winter Trailrunning Series (DWTS) is a series of fun, challenging and unique trail running races taking place primarily on the wonderful snowpacked fat bike multi-use trails in Duluth, MN.  The trail running series will take advantage of the extensive system of packed multi-use fat bike trails that snake throughout the City of Duluth and provide incredible and unique opportunities for trail runners to explore the amazing topography and views of Duluth in the winter.  Locals find the packed fat bike trails to be even more fun to run in the winter than when they're snow free!

We've selected a few of the most fun, scenic and popular routes for winter trail runners.  This years winter trail running series will start at Chester Park, move to Lester Park where we'll revive a winter classic on an all new course, move to Hartley Park for a 10K on a quintessential route in the heart of Duluth and finish with a 4 Hour test of endurance at the Frozen 4 Hour on a fun and scenic course in Lester Park.

Join us this winter for this fun series of races on the amazing winter trails of Duluth!  Can you finish all 4 races in the Series and become a Winter Trail Series Survivor?  Special award to runners who finish all four races.

Some races will include snowshoe and "no shoe" (trail running) divisions.

This new winter trail series will open up a whole new window of winter fun for runners not used to running on smooth, snowpacked trails.  Join us this winter and become a Winter Trail Series Survivor!  Be sure to dress warm!

Introduction

THE RACES

Chester Rim 5K - The Chester Rim 5K starts in Chester Park and utilizes the beautiful Chester Rim Trail, part of the Duluth Traverse multi-use trail that runs from one end of the City to the other.  We'll also drop down below Skyline to complete the loop along Chester Creek and its waterfalls and gorge.  This loop is flowing, fast and fun!

Northwoods Winter Marathon and Half Marathon Championships, Lester Park - The Northwoods Winter Marathon and Half Marathon Championships will run on the great fat bike trails in Lester Park.  We'll also utilize the spectacular Hawks Ridge fat bike trail, perched high above the Lakeside neighborhood with tremendous views of the City and Lake beyond!

Wild Winter Wipeout 5K! - The Wild Winter Wipeout will run UP and DOWN Spirit Mountain, burning your quads on the way up AND on the way down.  Have you ever blasted straight down a ski hill with trail running shoes on?  Here's a tip - IT'S SUPER FUN!!!  And you may just "wipeout" a time or two on the way down!

Hartley Park 10K - The Hartley Park 10K also runs on the fat bike trails through Hartley Park.  Many of these trails have been used by trail runners for years in the winter.  This is where many of us learned just how fun winter trail running on packed trails can be!  Enjoy this quintessential trail run through the heart of Duluth in Hartley Park!

Frozen 4 Hour - The Frozen 4 Hour will be a timed four hour race where competitors will attempt to run as many miles as possible in 4 hours on a frozen, snowpacked trail.  This will be a fun and challenging event taking place on packed multi-use trails.  The race will take place on a great 5K loop in Lester Park.  Runners will also be able to choose a 5K option if they'd just like to run one lap!
